Brandon Grace: Leading Mineral Acquisitions at Gateway Royalty

Brandon Grace is the Director of Land Acquisition at Gateway Royalty, where he plays a crucial role in negotiating deals with landowners, structuring contracts, and building mineral acquisition strategies. Since joining Gateway in March 2012, Brandon has been instrumental in identifying key investment areas, ensuring that the company remains a leader in the Utica Shale region. “If you own minerals in a prime area, there’s a good chance you’ve received a letter from me,” he says with a smile. His hands-on approach and extensive industry knowledge make him one of the most trusted mineral buyers in eastern Ohio.

A Career Built in Oil & Gas

Brandon grew up in Tyler, Texas, before attending Texas A&M University. He entered the oil and gas industry in 2009 when Chris Oldham, now the President of Gateway Royalty, introduced him to the business. His first role was leasing minerals for Chesapeake Energy through Dale Resources in Fort Worth. After a brief stint in Michigan, where he continued land leasing, Brandon was invited to be part of the founding team at Gateway Royalty in 2012. “Chris called me about an opportunity in Ohio, and the rest is history. We’ve been growing ever since.”

Why Landowners Choose Gateway

As Gateway’s primary mineral buyer, Brandon is deeply involved in working directly with landowners. “We’re local, accessible, and have a track record of doing exactly what we say we will do. That’s what sets Gateway apart,” he explains. Gateway handles everything in-house—title research, negotiations, and payments—making transactions efficient and seamless. “We’re an end-game buyer. We aren’t looking to flip deals; we hold minerals for the long term, and that allows us to make strong, competitive offers.”

One of the biggest misconceptions Brandon encounters is that mineral buyers always win. “That’s not the case at all. We take on real risks—commodity prices fluctuate, wells don’t always perform as expected, and sometimes we acquire minerals in areas that don’t pan out. We wish more landowners understood that,” he says. “What we can guarantee is that if we commit to a deal, we follow through. No backing out, no last-minute changes.”

The Reward of Helping Landowners

For Brandon, the most fulfilling part of his work is the impact he has on landowners’ lives. “I still have relationships with people I first met back in 2012. I’ve played golf with them, stayed in touch, and watched their families grow. We’ve helped landowners pay off medical debts, retire early, and even send their kids to college. That’s the part that makes this work truly meaningful.”

Brandon also understands that selling minerals isn’t for everyone. “We get it—some people want to hold on to their minerals forever, and that’s fine. But for those who are interested in diversifying, it’s an opportunity to take money off the table now and reinvest it elsewhere. Some people sell 25%, some sell 50%, and others sell all of it—it depends on their goals.”

A Direct Line to Gateway

One of the things that sets Gateway apart is its accessibility. “When you call the number on our website, you’re calling my cell phone. There’s no call center, no automated menu—you get me. I answer calls in the evenings, on weekends, even on holidays. If I don’t pick up, leave a voicemail, and I’ll get back to you right away.”

Brandon’s reputation as a straight shooter and a dedicated professional makes him a trusted partner for landowners looking to sell their minerals. “If you’re thinking about selling, let’s have a conversation. There’s no obligation, no pressure. Just real, honest talk about what’s best for you and your family.”

With over a decade of experience, a strong track record, and a commitment to integrity, Brandon Grace continues to drive Gateway Royalty’s success—one landowner at a time.
