Gateway Royalty has made a tradition of partnering with WTOV9 Steubenville to award the Gateway Royalty Defensive Player of the Year at WTOV’s Annual High School Football Awards.
Last year, St. Clairsville’s Brendan Ferns took home the award for his outstanding performance at inside linebacker.
This season, the team at Gateway Royalty was back at it again, and so was Brendan.
Now a team captain, Brendan has collected 118 total tackles – ten for a loss, two sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles leading the St. Clairsville Red Devils to a 9-3 season.
Brendan was also a First Team All-Ohio linebacker, the East District Division 4 Defensive Player of the Year and will be playing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January.
For these reasons, Brendan was named the Gateway Royalty Defensive Player of the Year for a second year in a row.
“We’re here to support the players and everything that they do, and it’s been cool to partner with WTOV9 and support the local football community by sponsoring the Game of the Week the last few years,” said Gateway Royalty Buyer Blaine Grace.
Gateway Royalty would like to congratulate all the nominees for the Gateway Royalty Defensive Player of the Year.
